Robotic lawnmow

Robotic robots are prevented from leaving your lawn by boundary cables. We explain whether an upper or underground laying makes more sense.

The boundary cable can usually be laid both above and underground.

The boundary cable can usually be laid both above and underground.

A robotic lawnmower must know exactly where to mow in your garden and where it is over. This prevents her from being affected, for example, your beautiful flower bed is affected. This ensures boundary cables, which can be laid either upper or underground in your garden. Here you can find out which of the two relocation variants makes more sense.

Both relocation variants, i.e. both the above and underground laying of your boundary cable, are legitimate and have their advantages and disadvantages. Anyone who laid their boundary cable underground, for example, prevents the cable from being scared or damaged by weather. In addition, this is also the optically nicer variant – because the cable is not visible from the start.

Remove the robotic lawnmowth cable above ground

However, the underground laying also has disadvantages. Since you have to work through at least the entire circumference of the garden, the time and energy expenditure is very large. In addition, the cable can then no longer be readjusted. That is why we advise you to lay the cable above ground.

Here are corrections or repairs, the cable should be damaged, much easier. The effort is lower and you don't have to worry about the factor in the long term – because after a few weeks the cable disappears in the turf and is no longer visible.

Moravo robots without a boundary cable as an alternative

If the boundary cables disturb you too much, you can alternatively use wireless robotic lawnmowers without a boundary cable. These rely on so -called “navigation baks”, which narrow down the lawn area to be mowed. These baks consequently communicate with the mower and, for example, can be checked in the ECOVACS series by app.

The intelligent route planning is very practical, but the robots also have their price. The ECOVACS G1-2000 usually ranks between 1,299 dollars to 1,599 dollars (as of April 2025). But it is also cheaper. The cheapest model is the ECOVACS G1-600 and for well under 1,000 dollars.
