After much back and forth, NetherRealm and Warner Bros. have finally let the Fatality out of the bag. Mortal Kombat 1 will indeed be a reboot of the series and will be released in September 2023. We have put together all the information about the new ultra-brutal brawler for you.

The Mortal Kombat series is as famous as it is notorious among fighting game fans. Not everyone likes the ultra-brutal depiction of violence, but there are very good genre representatives hidden under all the blood. After various rumours, supposed leaks and a teaser, developer NetherRealm and publisher Warner Bros. finally presented the next part with Mortal Kombat 1. The name already makes it clear: It will actually be a reboot.

A first trailer doesn’t show any game scenes, but gives a glimpse of the story. We see old acquaintances and chic cutscenes, but the information is still very vague. The video description reads, “It’s in our blood. Discover a reborn Mortal Kombat universe created by the fire god Liu Kang. Mortal Kombat 1 introduces a new era to the iconic series, with a new combat system, game modes and Fatalities!”

From the trailer it appears that Mileena, Kitana, Sub-Zero and Scorpion will be part of Mortal Kombat 1. You will also be able to choose Shang Tsung. With the cameo fighters, supporters now also find their way into the fights. They support you in the fights, but NetherRealm has not yet announced exactly what that looks like.

Pre-orders start tonight at 7:00 p.m. German time. As a reward, you will receive Shang Tsung as a playable character. Mortal Kombat 1 is to be released on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, in the console area PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and the Nintendo Switch will be served.
