Netherrealm Studios has announced the next Mortal Kombat game, which launches in September.
Mortal Kombat 1 features a reborn Mortal Kombat universe created by Vulcan Liu Kang. It’s a new era for the franchise, and it promises new combat systems, game modes, and death tolls.
It features an all-new story featuring re-imagined versions of classic characters like Liu Kang, Scorpion, Subzero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage and more. You can also choose from a roster of Kameo battle companions to assist you in battle.
Kameo Fighters are a group of companion characters that assist in matches, creating even more play possibilities. These characters are individually selected from the main fighter roster.
Netherrealm’s story mode also returns with an all-new cinematic take on storytelling, featuring twists on classic battles and original backstories from a cast of legendary fighters. More details on online and offline modes coming soon.
An Internet connection is not required to play Mortal Kombat 1, but is required to experience certain modes and features. A PlayStation Plus subscription, Xbox Live Gold, or Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to play the single-player game, but it is to play the online multiplayer game, which has a rollback network code.
If you’re interested, the game goes up for pre-order tomorrow, and paying cash early will give you access to the August beta and the playable character Shang Tsung.
Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
Buy the Premium Edition or Kollector’s Edition to get early access to the game starting September 14th.
The Standard Edition will cost $69.99 in physical and digital versions, and the Premium Edition will cost $109.99 in physical and digital versions. It will include all Standard Edition content, plus the Kombat Pack, early access to the game starting September 14, and 1,250 Dragon Krystals (the in-game currency).
