The next wave of layoffs in the gaming industry is here – and this time it hits the developers of Mortal Kombat 1, NetherRealm Studios.
In recent months, countless developers in the gaming industry have been laid off; almost every major company has adapted to the changed circumstances and laid off employees. There is no end in sight to this, as NetherRealm Studios has now clearly been hit.
Apparently, the developers of Mortal Kombat 1 have now laid off numerous employees; this is evident from several postings on LinkedIn. According to them, the entire mobile team at NetherRealm has been closed, which has resulted in the dismissal of the associated employees.
For example, Tony Lazzara, Quality Assurance Analyst at NetherRealm, wrote: “Good morning Internet. Unfortunately, yesterday the mobile team at NetherRealm was shut down. A number of very talented people were laid off.”
This includes animator Elizabeth Ramirez, who writes on LinkedIn: “It pains me to announce that I have been laid off from NetzerRealm Studios after approximately 10 years of service.”
According to initial reports, at least 50 employees will be affected by the layoffs. This year alone, around 11,000 employees in the gaming industry have already been laid off.
