Mountain update is here now, bringing new enemies and dungeons

bringing, Dungeons, enemies, Mountain, update

After a long wait, the time has finally come: The Viking survival game Valheim has released its next major update. As has been known for a long time, the mountain regions of the game will be revised with the mountain update. There you will now find new dungeons in which you can meet mysterious opponents, but also find new resources.

Here you will find all the important information about the big update and on page two, as usual, the entire patch notes. Find out what made Valheim so successful in our test video:

How big is the update?

As usual from Valheim, you don’t have to deal with huge amounts of data here. The download size is only about 50 megabytes, so you don’t have to be prepared for long waiting times.

What’s new?

Frosty Caverns: With the update, the developers are adding new dungeons to the mountain biome. However, the frosty caves only appear in areas that you have not explored before. In the last few months, some pictures have already been published showing these caves:

New resources: The werewolf-like Fenrings now drop claws and fur. In addition, red jute is added as a new crafting material. You can probably find them in the new caves.

New weapon and armor set: The Fenris armor consists of pants, a cloak and a hood. When all pieces are equipped, it provides an additional bonus. Also, now you can Flesh Rippers craft, a new weapon, likely worn as a gauntlet, made from the claws of Fenrings.

New items to build: In your base you can now lay out carpets and hang up curtains. There is also a new standing brazier.

Pause function: You can now pause your game in single player. This makes Viking life easier when the courier rings or the water for tea is boiling. Anyone who plays Elden Ring can only enjoy such luxury with a mod:

New Event: The new event is called You stirred the cauldron and is apparently related to one of the new enemy types.

Spoiler alert: If you’d rather be surprised by what awaits you in the caves, then you better not read the paragraph about the new enemies!

New Enemies: The patch notes mention three new enemies: In addition to bats, there should be the so-called Ulv and cultists. Apparently the caves house some kind of wolf cult, which probably also inspired the new armor. A concept art for the Mountain update shows a wolf-like figure that could also be a hooded and cloaked human:

What else is new: In addition to the new content, there are also a lot of bug fixes and improvements. Among other things, Valheim now supports control with the controller, and the game has also been optimized for the Steam Deck. See the patch notes on page 2 for details.

What’s next?

The next big update brings the Mistlands, a new biome where you will also find new enemies and resources. You should also meet a final boss there.

In a March 1st blog post, the developers also shared a new image of a bunny thought to inhabit the Mistlands:
