Call of Duty’s newest offshoot, Modern Warfare 2, is about to release soon. It starts on October 28th and the beta starts this weekend.
In the course of the live stream Call of Duty Next there is now a lot of new information about multiplayer. We give you an overview of the new game modes, gameplay mechanics and everything else that we now know.

New and familiar game modes
Of course, classic game modes like Team Deathmatch and Domination will return. But there are also a few new (and rediscovered) modes that we present to you here:
Knockout
There are no respawns in knockout mode, but you can revive each other. The aim is to completely eliminate the opposing team or to secure and hold a pocket when the round’s (very short) timer runs out.
That will be fine very fast, but also tactical to play. Knockout draws elements from Modern Warfare’s 2v2 Gunfight and the final circle in Warzone when things really heat up.
Prisoner Rescue
With the hostage you are an easier target, but you can see where your opponents are.
Attackers vs. defenders with a pinch of Rainbow Six: Here you have to free hostages or protect them. There are no respawns here either. However, you can also revive your team. The gameplay focuses on siege and defense tactics.
If you have the hostage on your back, you can only defend yourself with your secondary weapon. But then you have the advantage that you can see approximately where the opponents are.
Invasion (Ground War)
In the Invasion game mode you fight on parts of the Warzone map Al Mazrah.
Ground war from MW 2019 returns in even bigger style and might even rival Battlefield: up to 64 players and AI soldiers (12 AIs per team) in two teams on extensive maps on the cap. You get points when opponents are eliminated – whether on foot or by vehicle.
Special Ops
The Special Ops return! The main story from the campaign will be in these Two player co-op missions continued. One of you plays on the ground as usual while your partner provides air support. You play on quite large maps and have to complete varying mission goals together.
3 player raids
This mode is coming after release at a previously unknown date. Here it is important to coordinate with your own team, tactical action should be rewarded. According to the developer, raids are a complete novelty for the CoD series, with three players working together in co-op.
Third Person
Third-person mode will return! In other words, the camera is behind your character and you look over their shoulder. If you aim over the sights and sights, the camera switches to the first-person perspective. This third-person mode is supposed to offer a new tactical way to play multiplayer.

Multiplayer-Maps
The following two map types will await you in Modern Warfare 2:
Battle Maps (bis zu 32v32)
The so-called Battle Maps are mainly available for the Invasion / Ground War game mode. These are specially selected Excerpts from Al Mazrah, the new map for Warzone 2. One of them is called Sarrif Bay, where you will fight a lot on the roofs. The idea is based on the experiences that the developers made about Warzone Verdansk. Here team battles of up to 32vs32 take place, vehicles such as boats, helicopters & Co. are represented.
Core Maps (6v6)
The significantly smaller maps are designed exclusively for the very classic 6v6 battles. You are even something smaller and more streamlined than previous multiplayer maps in CoD and rely on the proven 3-lane layout with clearly defined walking paths. One of the maps is called Mercado Lasa Almas and takes place in a Mexican street market.
New gameplay mechanics
water fights
Your weapons behave very differently underwater – if you can use them at all. This only works with certain weapons.
You will be able to fight in Modern Warfare 2, over, on and in water. This happens in rivers as well as in the wavy ocean. The body of water can also be used as possibility of escape or hiding be used. However, your weapon behaves differently under water. You cannot use your primary weapon there, you have to switch to your pistol in these situations. There is water, for example, on the large Ground War maps and also in Warzone 2.
Hechtsprung
The tactical sprint returns and remains the fastest way to get around on foot. The slide is back as well, but is now triggered by pressing the crouch button in normal sprinting. A new feature is a dive, with which you can, for example, defensively disappear behind cover or dive through a window. It is triggered with the crouch button from the tactical sprint.

Before you climb all the way up the building and become an easy target, you can look over the edge and shoot pistols.
If you want to climb a building, you can hang on the wall and look over the edge before going all the way up. You can also fire your pistol from this position.
Air, water and ground vehicles
There is action not only on the ground: there are also some vehicles in the air and on the water.
The vehicles can now be destroyed in much more detail, but you can also interact more with the vehicles.
- It is now possible to lean out of the vehicles and shoot while doing so. That works as a passenger but also as a driver. You can also stand on the vehicle and fight from there.
- Doors and bumpers can be destroyed, smashed tyres and vehicles are completely disabled.
Perks, Feld-Upgrades etc.
Some of the gear pieces are already known to us. We introduce:

- DDoS (Feld-Upgrade)
- Shock Stick (tactical equipment)
