After facing controversy offline for a long time, MultiVersus will be fully launched next week with an interesting mix of characters.

Earlier today, Player First Games released the first trailer for MultiVersus, which will finally return next week (May 28). The trailer is all CG, showing characters like Finn and Velma going up against Bugs Bunny and the Joker, Martian and Marvin. The Iron Giant vs. Cake Cat and Stripes. All of this culminates with a bunch of the game’s playable characters finally reaching Game of Thrones’ Iron Throne, with the Joker sitting atop it, clearly outnumbered.

Of course, he’s got some backing, as a couple of classic villains make appearances: Jason Voorhees from “Friday the 13th” and Agent Smith from “The Matrix.” Okay, a bit of an odd combination, but hey, if you have the IP, I guess you can use it? Of course, they’re all new additions, as is the Joker himself, though I have to say adding Agent Smith before Neo is a bit of an odd choice.

The fact that Jason was included is pretty significant, as the Friday the 13th series has been off-limits amid years of litigation. That lawsuit was settled back in 2021, and the entire multimedia Jason Universe was recently announced, so this will actually mark the first big appearance of the classic horror villain in quite some time.

In addition to the Joker, Jason, and Agent Smith, the game will also welcome Adventure Time’s Banana Guard as a new playable character. A strange bunch, pardon the pun. The game will also feature new PvE modes called Rifts, all of which will feature unique versions of different characters, a bit like Super Smash Bros.’ classic modes.
