Netflix continues to ramp up its gaming efforts and has big ambitions, with more than 80 games currently actively in development.
Streaming giant Netflix wants to gain a further foothold in the gaming sector and has once again noticeably expanded its efforts in this segment. The company now has more than 80 games actively in development, as co-CEO Gergory K. Peters confirmed in a financial report.
According to Peters, the upcoming line-up is an attempt to refine the game catalog on Netflix. New projects will continue to be based on things that have already proven successful for the company in the gaming sector. However, flops have been acknowledged and such paths will no longer be taken in the future.
Compared to the previous year, 2023, the company has tripled its efforts in the gaming sector and, according to Peters, growth is looking good; this was shown by evaluations of the first half of 2024. In the future, however, the company has set even more aggressive growth targets in the gaming sector for 2025 and 2026. Nevertheless, this segment is still in its infancy for Netflix as a whole and does not yet have too great an impact on the company’s business as a whole.
Since 2021, Netflix has released over 100 games. As far as in-house productions go, Netflix focuses on games based on its own established streaming IPs such as The Queen’s Gambit, Narcos or Too Hot to Handle.
