Netflix formed its video game development studio after acquiring Next Games (The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land), Night School Studio (Oxenfree, Afterparty), and Boss Fight Entertainment (Dungeon Boss). This unit, based in Helsinki, Finland, led by Marko Lastikka, Vice President of Zynga, who also worked for EA, will develop games “world class”
This is announced by Amir Rahimi, Vice President of Netflix Studios for the video game segment, in an official press release. He’s also aware of the challenge this poses and seems willing to take the time it takes to achieve his goals.
This is another milestone in our vision to create a world-class game studio that will deliver a variety of original, delicious, and deep games to our hundreds of millions of members worldwide, with no ads or in-app purchases. It’s still early days and we still have work to do to provide a great gaming experience on Netflix.
