Netflix started pushing its own gaming efforts some time ago. Far away from the smaller games already available in the streaming subscription, one should now apparently strike the big blow.
So far, the games as part of their Netflix subscription for subscribers have been more of a goodie or gimmick that you can take with you when the streaming giant is already donating it. Netflix’s gaming ambitions are much larger, so it’s not surprising that the first real top title seems to be in the works.
At least that’s what a new job posting from Netflix, in which the company is looking for a game director, suggests. This is to work on a PC game of the highest AAA quality in the in-house studio in Los Angeles. The team there is led by former Overwatch producer Chacko Sonny.
According to reports, the new AAA title for the PC is a shooter that is supposed to be based on a live service model. The latter can be deduced from the fact that the game director you are looking for should already have experience and a profound understanding of the matter here.
According to Netflix, the upcoming game should keep gamers engaged in the long term and be designed in such a way that players also return to the game world regularly. The wanted game director with at least 10 years of professional experience should be made so palatable that the game should not have any design restrictions due to financial aspects or in terms of monetization.
The tender also reveals another piece of information: From a technical point of view, the Unreal Engine will apparently be used, because the employee sought should already have experience with the implementation of game features here. Last but not least, the game world, its story and the characters should be good enough to be used in a Netflix film or TV series.
