Netflix wants to shake up the way you watch its programs a bit and is offering the addition of a bot on Discord. Explanations.
It’s a bit of a surprise and comes like a fly in the ointment, but video-on-demand giant Netflix just announced a collaboration with Discord for a group viewing feature. The red platform just launched a Discord bot called “Hey, Netflix” to help you find a movie/series to watch along with members of your Discord server.
Netflix infiltrates gamers
Once the Netflix bot is installed, all you have to do is go to a text channel in your Discord and type the /heynetflix command. The robot will then ask you if you want to start a session just for you or for multiple people. You then have the opportunity to vote for a program for a period of 10 seconds, yes that is short.
A text channel will then be automatically created so you can discuss the movie or series without disturbing other members. Note that the command also works on mobile devices. On the other hand, excuse the bad news and emotional upsurge, but it’s actually just a referral bot and the viewing is through Netflix. We will therefore not be able to share a movie with multiple people on a single account. And that’s a shame.
Here’s the video announcement on the official Netflix Geeked account:
It remains to be seen if everything will become more intuitive in the future, because at the moment everything is done in the language of Shakespeare, which can be somewhat blocking for many French speakers.
