Awaited around the turn by fans of the original work, Netflix’s One Piece series has yet to show itself in action. And yet its release date was announced just ahead of time.
While video game adaptations are thriving on streaming platforms and in cinemas, manga is also on the rise at the SVOD giants. Especially on the Netflix side, which is very fond of live-action adaptations of fan-favorite Japanese works. The result is quite mixed, as evidenced by feedback on the Death Note and Full Metal series. However, the company is not shy and ready to tackle a manga monument: One Piece. A Netflix series is actually expected for this year and its release date has just been leaked.
Netflix’s One Piece series in September?
Netflix’ One Piece series is expected at the turn. When the live-action adaptation was announced, the community was immediately divided. On the one hand the most optimistic, curious to see what Eiichiro Oda’s universe would look like with real shots. On the other hand, those who are fed up with more or less mediocre attempts in this area and already fear the worst. The American giant offered a little appetizer earlier this year by revealing the silhouettes of the leading characters from behind. We saw Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) with his back to the setting sun and during another shot he was joined by his first four nakama and good old Merry. And that was it. However, it seems that Netflix will soon be ready to show a first trailer for the One Piece series since the air date has apparently already been set.
Project cameraman Michael Wood BSC appears to have dropped the ball a little early. As several fans noted, her Instagram account bio now mentions a September 23, 2023 release date on Netflix. A date that coincides with the latest statements from Mackenyu Arata, interpreter of Zoro, who had confirmed that the One Piece series would appear in the May issue of GQ magazine this fall.
What events will be included in the series?
For the record, the Netflix one-piece series follows East Blue’s arc, the formation of the Straw Hat crew, from his meeting between Luffy and Shanks to his first adventures with Zoro, Nami, Sanji, and Usopp. However, we do not know if the adaptation will manage to cover the entire arc or if it will take liberties to shorten it.
It’s definitely sure to see much-appreciated minds from the manga, including Kobby, Alvida, Monkey D. Garp, Arlong, Morgan, Kaya, Zeff, or even Mihawk. So the big fights seem assured. For more details, however, we’ll have to wait for a first trailer and official information.
