Today, I thought I would never type a sentence like this: Netflix’s “Beverly Hills Cop 4,” the latest sequel that would have made about $7 had it been released in theaters, looks good.
Today, Netflix finally released the first look at the film, and while it’s a brief trailer, it already shows off the tone and tone we can expect from Eddie Murphy’s return to the role of detective Axel Foley. Overall energy. To everyone’s surprise, he looks lively and the best he’s had in a long time, no matter how good or bad the rest of the movie is. You can watch a preview here.
Murphy will be joined by Judge Reinhold, Kevin Bacon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bronson Pinchot, Paul Reiser, John Ashton, Patricia Bell Che and Tyler Page, among others. The film is directed by Mark Molloy (“Working Apple: Losers”) and stars Will Beall (“Aquaman”), Kevin Etten (“Son of Zorn”) and Tom Gormi Written by Ken (“The Unbearable Weight of Genius”).
The official synopsis reads: “Detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) returns to Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylor Page) and Foley confront A new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) joins forces with old friends Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a Conspiracy.” You know, the usual Legacy sequel stuff, even though Murphy remains the star of the show. Still, one wonders how attractive another “Beverly Hills Cop” sequel would be in 2024.
As mentioned, this may not be possible for a theatrical release, but Netflix is good at getting its subscribers to devour everything on the platform’s gorgeous homepage, so more people may end up watching this than Raiders of the Lost Ark: Dial》Destiny as we know it.
