A new button has appeared in the Netflix app on your phone. If you press it, you will unlock a new mode for the streaming app.
If you update the Netflix app on your phone, you’ll notice a new button. It’s in the top right corner on Android devices and shows the outline of a TV and a phone. If you press it, you can connect your phone to a TV and put the app into what’s known as companion mode. What’s behind it?
Your Netflix app on your phone becomes a remote control for the Netflix app on your TV. In companion mode, you have a control pad at your disposal, as well as an on-screen keyboard that you can use to conveniently search for films and series. The annoying task of typing letter by letter with the remote control on the TV’s on-screen keyboard is no longer necessary. The app also offers shortcuts to popular Netflix categories.
Control the Netflix app on your TV with your mobile phone
In order to connect your phone to the TV, both devices must be on the same network and you must be logged into the app with the same account.
If you want to stream Netflix content on your phone again, you can exit companion mode and disconnect the connection to the TV by pressing the button again.
By the way, Netflix is currently advertising companion mode in its app on smart TVs with huge QR codes.
