In a presentation on new televisions, TV manufacturer TCL Information about the release period for faster consoles and the AMD hardware used in them. Accordingly, the PlayStation 5 Pro and updates to the Xbox Series X and Series S will appear next year or the year after.

The GPU performance should roughly correspond to a Radeon RX 7700 XT from AMD and enable rendering in native 4K resolution at up to 120 Hertz. The image output should also be possible in 8K resolution.

It is unclear whether this is based on solid information or is just speculation by TCL. The presentation at which the information was given took place in Poland, as the website ppe.pl reports. One of TCL’s factories is located there. A detailed comparison of the specs of the current consoles with PC hardware can be found in this article:

How plausible is the information?

The key data mentioned for the release and the technology are absolutely within the scope of what one could assume independently of official information.

The faster variant of the PlayStation 4 from 2013 appeared three years later in 2016 in the form of the PlayStation 4 Pro. With the PS5 launching in late 2020, an update in the form of the PS5 Pro in late 2023 or early 2024 would fit into the picture.

The fact that both Microsoft and Sony rely on AMD’s new RDNA 3 architecture can also be seen as a given. After all, AMD hardware was already used in the PS4 and the Xbox One and the predecessor RDNA2 already powers the current PS5 and Xbox Series X/S models.

What do we know about the new AMD GPU so far? Exactly how fast the RX 7700 XT named by TCL will be is not yet known due to a lack of official information. Leaks have recently repeated performance at the level of the current top model Radeon RX 6900 XT spoken, which we also explain in more detail in this news:

Is AMD risking too much with the Radeon RX 7700 XT for a lower price?

The RX 6900 XT has a theoretical computing power of around 23 teraflops, the current PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles are around 10 to 12 teraflops. In comparison, the performance of the new console versions could roughly double. Until AMD, Microsoft or Sony officially comment on this, all of this remains speculation.

How do you rate the information from TCL? Exactly what you expected from possible updates for the PS5 and the Xbox Series X or is it a little surprising? Let us know in the comments!
