A new genre, survival building games, has been on the rise for some time now. After titles like Surviving the Aftermath and Floodland, New Cycle will soon explore a post-apocalyptic setting. Before the studio Core Engage’s first work goes into early access on January 18, 2024, the developers will explain the various elements of the game in a series of blog entries.
What is New Cycle about?

The dystopian building game New Cycle reveals its imminent release in the trailer
The gameplay trailer above gives you a first impression of the game. In New Cycle, a solar flare has caused the downfall of our civilization, leaving behind a devastated world where people fight for survival in small groups. You must build a city, take good care of its residents, and survive devastating environmental disasters.
Trade is inevitable
The first Early Access devlog focuses on how you interact with other groups of survivors. Traders from other settlements who are also fighting for their survival often visit you. They then suggest various barter options; there is no single currency.
What traders offer and charge depends on the history of their respective settlement. Some of them have a surplus of valuable metals, but they lack food.
Additional features will be added during early access. For example, there will be certain luxury goods that you cannot produce yourself and have to exchange instead. Here it will also be possible to conclude permanent trade agreements that will ensure you a reliable flow of the goods you need.
Risks and opportunities of exploration
But trading isn’t the only way you interact with the outside world. You can probably also send out exploration parties and explore the regions around you. This probably happens via some kind of map view. You can also discover resources, encounter dangers and experience little stories.
It will also be possible to build small outposts that contribute to your resource production. These bases can be connected to your city via railway lines. Later we should also meet other factions while exploring and establish diplomatic relationships with them.
The developers want to publish another dev blog next week. It should then be about resource transport and disasters.
What do you think of New Cycle so far? Do you think the title has potential and are you already looking forward to Early Access? Or do you like other genre representatives much better?
