Undoubtedly it feels good to know that your game collection is protected by a two-factor system. Steam offers a mobile app for this, which generates time-limited codes in order to log in securely.
However, the system is cumbersome: Enter login data on Steam, switch to the authenticated mobile app, log in there with a password, call up Steam Guard, transfer the unique password to the desktop, login takes place. Puff.
As the SteamDB developer and dataminer Pavel Djundik has now found out, there are new references to another security option in the Steam code. Apparently, Valve is planning a QR code login.

What does the find on Steam reveal?
The code snippets apparently show texts that are to be played to users. These indicate that there will be two options: classic login via account name or via QR code. Then you just have to be logged into the mobile app, scan the QR code and you will then be automatically logged into Steam.
However, we will have to wait and see how that turns out. It is also possible that the feature will not appear at all and will only be used for testing purposes. But the find is always interesting, especially for users who are rather annoyed by the previous procedure.
Steam in transition
Steam has been going through a redesign of the user interface for a long time. The game library was first modernized, followed by a more intuitive download interface. Playing on Steam while the download is in progress may also be possible soon.
Valve is now putting various functions to the test, especially for Steam Deck. If the new QR code feature appears for both Steam Deck and the desktop version of Steam, users will have a potentially faster and more convenient way to log in in the future.
