With Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the successor to the popular assassin series is currently on everyone's lips. But there are a second series at Ubisoft, of whom hardly anyone speaks today and without which the games for the Templar order and the Assassins would never have existed: Prince of Persia. And that could soon get a new video game sequel for the first time since 2010.
What do you think of a new Prince of Persia?
Since Ubisoft announced a VR offshoot of the Persian successor to the throne, the name has been read more frequently. First rumors spread that a remake of the Sands of Time trilogy could appear. Then the noble suddenly had a guest appearance in For Honor and recently Jordan Mechner – creator of the first part from 1989 – answered the questions of the fans on Reddit. In his thread he even noted that he don't talk about unannounced projects
The latest development is a registration of the domain www.princeofpersia6.com on May 4, 2020 by Ubisoft itself. So far, the developer has secured a numbered URL for each main part of the series since Sands of Time. Their alternative titles are as follows:
- Prince of Persia – Sands of Time: Prince of Persia 1
- Prince of Persia – Warrior Within: Prince of Persia 2
- Prince of Persia – The 2 Thrones: Prince of Persia 3rd
- Prince of Persia 2008: Prince of Persia 4th
- Prince of Persia – The Forgotten Sands: Prince of Persia 5
Could it be the domain for the VR game? This is unlikely since the VR game is only supposed to be a spin-off. There were already a few of them in the Prince of Persia universe. For example, the Nintendo DS exclusive Battles of Prince of Persia. However, Ubisoft never got a numbered URL for that.
Would a comeback make sense?
In the past, the studio said it had "no ideas for a successor." A new game has to be like this always stand out from Ubisoft's other projects. However, since Assassin's Creed is moving more and more towards action role-playing, a separate jump-and-run game would make sense again.
Ubisoft thought about it earlier Prince's comeback to. For example, Assassin's Creed Origins was originally supposed to become a new Prince of Persia. The first screenshot of the game was titled »POP_ZERO2«.
Assassin's Creed itself was also planned to succeed Prince of Persia before Ubisoft took a different path and thus filed the successor to the throne

KawarabanWithout Prince of Persia, I wouldn't be writing about video games today. Many years ago I was behind the website www.princeofpersia-game.de and dared to take my first steps in the field of gaming journalism.
And even if Forgotten Sands disappointed me (no Ubisoft, after the events from Sands of Time the prince would never go to battle again for fame and glory!), The series never let me go. For me, Jordan Mechner's diary on the development of the first part is one of the most important works in video game history.
And now another game is at your fingertips! May the long-awaited successor to Prince of Persia 2008 come, whose story never ended? Or is Ubisoft implementing its old idea of a PoP in modern times? Either way: Should Ubisoft breathe new life into the series, it should not only be exciting for fans.
