This week it’s time: Sons of the Forest, the most wanted game on Steam right now, is entering Early Access. Shortly before the release, the developers released a new gameplay trailer that impressively shows how two strong aspects from the predecessor have been further improved.
New gameplay features base building, combat and multiplayer
The predecessor The Forest is still considered one of the best survival games ever: you are stranded in a huge forest where clever AI cannibals ambush you.
You can always hear something rustling and if you turn around you can just see one of the natives disappearing into the depths of the forest – not for the faint of heart!
But the dense atmosphere and great AI are not the only strengths. Especially the sophisticated crafting system and the fights with the enemies just described have received a lot of praise.
The new gameplay trailer now shows how these aspects have been further improved:

After a bit of exploration at the beginning of the video, base building is demonstrated: As in the previous game, you will probably have to cut down numerous trees in order to build your own shelter. The construction itself now runs with many fancy new animations, for example when you build pillars on the sides of your hut.
The fights also impress with new animations: The cannibals will twitch when hit with the stun baton, and even tear their bodies apart when hit with the shotgun at close range.
However, the animations of the uncanny mutants, who approach you in a completely unnatural way, seem to be particularly complex. And the fact that injured enemies are now even crawling away in terror on the ground seems to be an indication that the already clever AI in the predecessor has some new surprises in store.
As already mentioned, Sons of the Forest Early Access releases this week, February 23rd to be precise. If you’re still unsure whether the currently most popular game on Steam might be something for you: Our short quiz will help you if you have two minutes to ask a few questions.
