Square Enix and Aniplex have released a brand new trailer for the NieR: Automata Ver1.1a anime, finally giving us confirmation of the show’s release date. While we were already expecting the anime to hit theaters in January 2023, this new trailer confirms fans will just have to wait until January 7 for the show to kick off.
The show will air on various Japanese stations beginning January 7 at 10AM ET, and viewers outside of Japan can watch it on Hulu, Bandai or Prime Video.
If you feel like you can’t wait that long and want to learn more, a live broadcast is scheduled for tomorrow (December 28th at 6AM EST) and more details will be announced before the animation is released.
Anime adaptations will differ from their source material. Yoko Taro recently shared, “NieR: Automata is a story we created for the game, so copying it as it is wouldn’t make for an interesting story for the anime.” That said, it seems like the core story is there, There are no beloved characters like Pascal left behind.
For those unfamiliar with the game, NieR: Automata follows the dangers of droids 2B, 9S, and A2 as they attempt to take back Earth from hostile robots. Speaking of the cast, you can expect to see Yui Ishikawa as 2B, Ayaka Suwa as A2, Natsuki Hanae as 9S, Aoi Yuki as Pascal, and of course, more considering the permutation of characters in NieR: Automata – the epilogue.
