Victoria 3 fans are still eagerly awaiting the first really big patch 1.1. It should appear at least before the end of the year. Fortunately, the strategy game will not lie idle until then. The developers at Paradox occasionally release new patches. Same now. Patch 1.0.6 was deployed on November 14th and takes care of some annoying problems.
Above all, the AI and its impertinent behavior are at stake here. The new patch is supposed to ensure that the AI behaves a little more realistically. Especially when it comes to keeping alliances that have already been made. Here we explain exactly what happened.
These are the most important innovations
The number of changes made by patch 1.0.6 is manageable, but not every point is immediately clear and easy to understand. Most important are the AI improvements. A total of five changes or fixes have been made.
- The AI will now put more effort into supporting allies or protectorates in conflicts. So hopefully you won’t be on your own that often anymore.
- If you are a powerful protector, then this factor will always play a role should you pray for an alliance or a customs union.
- So far, the AI’s will to go to war could increase even when the gold reserves were already at 100 percent. With the new patch there is an upper limit for this.
- The AI should now correctly calculate when to remain neutral due to an ongoing war and when to interfere. This should no longer keep allies out of your big wars to fight a minor war at the end of the world.
- A current diplomacy game is no longer an empty dash in the neutrality calculation display.

What else has happened?
In addition to the changes to the AI, there were a few more bug fixes. Game balance and performance have also been adjusted. Here are the remaining patch notes in Europe:
Spielbalance
- The number of monthly radicals from political movements has been reduced.
Performance
- Reduced the number of pops in mid to late game by automatically merging tiny pops back into the total population.
- Reduced the number of pops in mid to late game by allowing unemployed pops to switch jobs once they become sufficiently impoverished.
- Improved performance when updating political movement trends.
- Improved performance when calculating Liberation War Goals.
Bug fixes
- Fixed settings not saving properly when the path contained a non-Latin character.
- Fleets now regenerate morale.
- The tutorial task
Passes a law that allows an institution
shouldn’t be impossible now. - Fixed a bug where a appeased political movement could still trigger a revolution.
- Fixed a bug causing the achievement
The Berlin Conference
was not achieved. - The Star-Swarmed Banner achievement no longer requires exactly 100 states, but instead requires 100 or more.
- The flamethrower event no longer displays a placeholder.
- Fixed CTD in CPdxTerrain::CreateEffect
- Fixed CTD in CWarGoal::IsAdjacent
