Fallout: New Vegas is often considered the best Fallout game ever. At least according to our editorial rankings and our community survey. New Vegas is an exotic game, because although it is obviously based on the 3D version after the Bethesda takeover, it was developed by a completely different team.
As is well known, Obsidian is behind Fallout: New Vegas, who later worked on games like Pillars of Eternity and The Outer Worlds. Josh Sawyer was in charge of New Vegaswho still works for Obsidian. Sawyer has in a new video on his YouTube channel
According to Sawyer, Obsidian placed some of the deadliest creatures right near the starting settlement of Goodsprings only because to bring Fallout 3 veterans back to earth.

A warning signal to Bethesda fans
Fallout 3 wasn’t a hard game. So. Skyrim isn’t a hard game either. The fights in those games aren’t super challenging.
Sawyer makes this statement as if he had just started a controversy. But most Bethesda fans know that he is of course right. In Elder Scrolls, nothing should stop you from exploring the world, and neither should Fallout 3. That is why many enemies often adapt completely to your level.
In New Vegas, Obsidian wanted to take a slightly different approach. Here, too, there is a form of level scaling, but also areas and monsters that are too much for newly created couriers. To ensure that fans of Fallout 3 learn this quickly, Sawyer and his team have prepared a small trap:
The biggest focus of New Vegas was to make the beginning a little more difficult and to tone down the scaling slightly. That’s why there are Deathclaws, Cazadors, and Super Mutants north of Goodsprings. They were there to show Fallout 3 players: hey, there are really challenging areas in the game. You can’t just glide all over the map without it getting hot.
So if you start the Mojave Wasteland with the gaming experience from Fallout 3, you might quickly get your butt kicked. Simply because you are used to being able to walk anywhere.
The art of game balance
The example from Fallout: New Vegas is just one point in the video, which is basically about game balance and why Sawyer thinks that there is more to it than just inflating numbersFor Sawyer, a satisfying game balance always includes details like behavior or the environment. What kind of game you are playing also plays a very important role.
In any case, New Vegas never the hardcore brother of Fallout 3 The beginning was a little more difficult, but Sawyer admits that New Vegas doesn’t remain consistently challenging in later levels, but rather becomes a little more like the Fallout 3 experience.
