There will be a new game in The Witcher universe. Adam Kincinski – CEO of the CD Projekt Red studio – confirmed this in a meeting with journalists, as reported by Eurogamer Poland (via Gamesradar). However, it will take some time before the title appears: Currently, only a small team is deployed for it, while Cyberpunk 2077 is still under development.
This team is currently only preparing for the development of the new The Witcher game. The majority of the work is done first after the release of Cyberpunk 2077
New game won't be The Witcher 4
The next game in The Witcher universe won't be The Witcher 4. The planned game is not intended to be a direct sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt after the trilogy about Geralt von Riva and his foster daughter Ciri has already been completed.
No real surprise after Adam Kicinski already revealed in 2017 that you don't necessarily want to develop another Witcher game with the witcher Geralt von Riva in the lead role, but that a return to the universe is possible.
So it's possible that the new Witcher game is one Spin-off, prequel or a whole new story acts and we don't even get to see Geralt. However, the studio has not yet released any details. It just means that you already have a "clear idea" of the next part of the series.
In addition to titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red also developed games such as Gwent and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.
Cyberpunk & The Witcher "the two great universes" by CD Projekt Red
New video game universes alongside The Witcher and Cyberpunk will not be on the plan for the development team in the future. As Kicinski explains, one currently wants nJust develop games "in the worlds of Witcher or Cyberpunk". While the fans of CD Projekt Red can no longer expect the release of Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3 recently celebrated a small renaissance.
Thanks in part to the Netflix series with Henry Cavill and the Nintendo switch port Wild Hunt recently played more players on Steam than ever before. This broken record also had an immediate impact on the sales of The Witcher 3: they have increased by 554 percent in the past few months, which means CD Projekt Red will now be more involved in all future profits on the Valve platform.
