New World: Amazon MMO apparently kills expensive NVIDIA graphics cards

On August 31, Amazon plans to publish its ambitious online role-playing game New World. A test phase is currently running as part of a beta, but there still seem to be serious problems with high-quality NVIDIA graphics cards.

A thread was started in the official forum by the user Goatz, who reported that the New World closed beta killed his NVIDIA RTX 3090. After pressing the play button, the fan speed increased to 100%, the frames per second dropped to 0 and then the monitors went out and the graphics card was no longer recognized. Particularly annoying, since it is one of the highest quality GPU from NVIDIA.

As a result, several other users jumped aside and reported the same problem; there is now also a subreddit with corresponding user experience. One theory assumes that the game’s uncovered frame rate in the menu could cause the graphics cards to overheat.

Opposite to PC Gamer Amazon has meanwhile expressed itself and says that at least no “extensive problems” have been found with RTX 3090 graphics cards, even if there are “a few” reports.

New World should be safe to play, so Amazon continues. A patch will be released, which limits the frame rate in the game menu to give the players more security.
