news New World, Server Merger: The transition seems to be bearing fruit… but for how long?

Nearly seven months after its release, New World’s popularity appears to have waned. Too many servers, most of which were almost empty, defeated many players, and the developers started merging some of them a few months ago to rekindle the flame. After another merger and event centered around Easter, where is New World?

New World, Server Merger: The transition seems to be bearing fruit... but for how long?

Since its release in September 2021, New World has been talked about a lot, and not always on the good side. After an explosive starting listing more than 700,000 concurrent playersand a peak of popularity in October amounting to no less than 900,000 players simultaneously connected t, the MMORPG from Amazon Game Studios quickly hit the ground running. Victims of their popularity, the game’s servers were unable to handle so many players at once, resulting in endless queues, similar to the start of Lost Ark or Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker. To solve this problem, the developers had to open new servers, which unfortunately turned out to be in vain after a few weeks when the number of players began to shrink.

The population drop was brutal, and New World went from over 900,000 concurrent players to 145,000 in two months., leaving behind underpopulated or downright abandoned servers. The developers’ solution was to merge the empty servers with the more popular ones, not only to allow players more interaction, but also to fix issues with NPCs attacking abandoned towns, preventing the few players who were still there from advance their characters. Since then, the population of Aeternum has continued to decline, averaging around 20,000 players in recent weeks.. However, Amazon’s MMORPG has seen a few new faces thanks to the opening of free-to-play servers this past weekend. and it looks like a new fusion of paid servers is paying off:

On the way to a player base renewal?

New World, Server Merger: The transition seems to be bearing fruit... but for how long?

The main goal of this new merger was to maximize the population on a server instead of seeing players scattered across almost empty servers.. This allowed them to find teammates for expeditions and more easily participate in PvP battles. With this in mind, Amazon Game Studios decided to consolidate key servers around the world. The details of the server merger in Central Europe can be found here:

  • Asgard, Hades, Hellheim, Fae and Caer Sidi are now included abaton
  • Styx, Antillia, Utgard and Learad merged with aaru
  • Lyonesse joined nysa
  • Bifrost, Niflheim, Bengodi, and Kor are now owned by Tir Na Nog
  • Arcturus merged with Tartaros

Since that operation the number of French-speaking servers has increased from three to two (Nysa and Ship-Trap) and no fewer than six European servers are considered full. With this merger and the Easter weekend, the German servers aaru etc Evonik seem to be having a great hit with over 1600 simultaneous connections and the community seems to appreciate the change. Players can now find support to complete their quests fairly quickly, and faction wars have resumed, making the atmosphere of New World much friendlier than it has been in recent months. The only dark spot on this board is lack of resourcesas farmers tend to gather at key locations to stock up on materials, But the developers should be able to fix this issue in a future patch.

And you, are you still playing New World? If you left, do you plan to return to Aeternum now that the population is denser? Tell us everything in the comments!
