New World has been struggling with dwindling player numbers since its release. After many bugs and half-baked game design caused the almost one million active Steam players to flee at times, Amazon is now wooing its fans with updates and improvements.
A major update is now available Brimstone Sands before. And that not only offers new endgame content like a huge new biome, but should also make the first hours of play as a newcomer easier. More variety in opponents should provide an overall more entertaining gaming experience.

The most important things in a nutshell:
- New biome: Brimstone Sands is a desert with a great pyramid at its center. According to Amazon, the area spans three times the area of previous biomes. The story there revolves around divine beings in contact with Egyptians and corrupted Roman soldiers.
- New weapon: The greatsword allows for a different style of play than previous weapon types. The Greatsword should be able to be used in both damage and defensive builds. In addition, it should be compatible with many other melee weapons.
- Improved game entry: The tasks in New World, which revolve around the first 25 levels, are to be revised extensively. For example, walking distances have been shortened to ensure a better flow of the game. In addition, the starting areas should be more entertaining and unique overall, which should ensure, among other things, new opponent variations.
- Adjustments to occupied territories and various minor changes
The third point is particularly important: As soon as Amazon Games has collected enough data and player feedback, the developer wants to extend the improvements around the first 25 levels to the rest of New World content.
With this, New World could perhaps persuade one or the other player to return. The first reactions to the announcement are striking YouTube and Reddit so far mostly positive.

When will the update appear?
It won’t be long now. Two phases for Brimstone Sands are on the agenda:
- The PTR testing phase: At the beginning of September, several elements of Brimstone Sands are to be tested on the test server. The starting improvements and the Greatsword will come to the server first, followed later by the new area Brimstone Sands.
- Der Full Release: As soon as all content has been extensively tested, it will be released on the live servers in October 2022. The developers have not yet been more specific.
