After a certain crossing of the desert, the iconic Terminator license seems to be making a comeback. In any case, it is a surprising announcement that should delight fans.
While Terminator Zero is coming to Netflix on August 29th, we also have Survivors, a game that looks promising on paper but has unfortunately been delayed until 2025. In an even more distant future, we learn that another project is in the works that could be very exciting for fans.
Opening a space-time rift for Terminator
In 1984, the first Terminator made a sensational entry into cinema and the science fiction genre. Directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in the terrifying role of the T-800, the film is now a classic. Its sequel, Judgement Day, still led by James Cameron, hit the nail on the head. The same cannot be said, however, for the following films: Rise of the Machines, Salvation, Genisys and Dark Fate marked a gradual decline in quality. However, the trend seems to be reversing, with Terminator Zero appearing on Netflix.
But now James Cameron, the original creator of sacred science fiction monsters like Alien or, in some ways, more recently Avatar, dropped a literal bombshell during an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. While talking about the upcoming Netflix series, the influential director surprisingly stated: ” is working on his own Terminator thing “. Pressed to say more, the man answered without mincing his words: ” It is completely confidential. I would not want to send you a potentially dangerous robot agent if you were to talk about it, even after the fact
James Cameron is not ready to retire yet
In any case, note that the “father” of Terminator is therefore working on a new project in this emblematic SF license. At 69 years old, James Cameron will certainly have a lot to do in the coming years. Remember that he is also working on three Avatar films. The third part, entitled “Fire and Ashes”, recently released new stunning images, and the theatrical release is a priori scheduled for December 17, 2025. Fans of the eccentric director are therefore more or less well served in the future.
