Although Robert Pattinson seems to be an unbeatable Bruce Wayne, few know that there was another actor who was very close to becoming the Dark Knight before the British dazzled Matt Reeves at the audition: Nicholas Hoult.
Recently on the podcast Happy Sad Confusedthe English actor spoke about what happened more than five years ago, stating that, although it was a huge blow, he only has good words for Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson, and great hopes for the future of the saga.
“Yes, of course, it was an emotional blow because your head is not prepared for that. [Risas] You are aware on a practical level. You think, ‘I know I’m going to audition against Rob,’ and Rob is fantastic in that movie,” said Hoult, who was convinced, just by reading the script, that the film was going to be a box office success.
In reality, the actor has not had much luck in terms of getting roles, since in just one year he lost three leading roles in films that turned out to be great hits: The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick and Mission Impossible 7. Still, It seems that he has managed to recover ground, since he will play Lex Luthor in the new Superman movie, scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
