Square Enix have shared new details about the weapon system for upcoming NieR Replicant Ver 1.22 which will add weapon stories similar to NieR Automata.
NieR Replicant Ver 1.22 Adds New Weapon Story System Inspired by Automata
During the live stream by Square Enix held on February 2nd for NieR Re[in]carnation, new details were unveiled also for upcoming NieR Replicant Ver 1.22. This covered a new Weapon Story system being added.
If you’ve played NieR Automata, you will be familiar with the Weapon Story system which added backstory with each weapon discovered and leveled, as you progressed through the game. This system will now be integrated with NieR Replicant Ver 1.22, hopefully unlocking new lore with it.
The Weapon Story system is also making its way into NieR Re[in]carnation, the first mobile game of the NieR franchise. If you want to see the whole live stream you can watch it below. The stream is in Japanese but you can use the auto-translate subtitle function to gain more insight for Replicant’s weapon system, which starts at minute 21:00.
The Weapon Story system also known as Weapon’s Memories has been a long part of Yoko Taro’s games, including the Drakengard series. Taro explains in the live stream (which was reported by Dualshockers) that Replicant didn’t have the system originally as it contained a lot of quests, so the director didn’t feel it was necessary. However, the system is now being added in Ver 1.22 and there will be plenty to enjoy this time around.
NieR Replicant 1.22474487139 is a remaster or “version up” according to Square Enix producer Yusuke Saito. The new version is set to include fully voiced lines, new content, new music compositions by the original composer Keiichi Okabe and the possibility of a new ending. Replicant was announced to coming to PS4, Xbox One and Steam on April 24th 2021 worldwide.
Back in December, Square Enix producer Yosuka Saito shared that they were still working on project Babylon’s Fall, along with a brand new game but no news on what that game is yet.
