night dive studio Show us our first look System Shock 2: Enhanced Editiona new version of the game “appears for the first time on next-gen consoles.”
It seems like we’ve been waiting for some kind of System Shock release, especially a System Shock remake – it’s supposed to be out on May 30th, a little over a week away (only on PC though). Now Nightdive Studios has given us another much-anticipated System Shock game, this time an enhanced version of System Shock 2. The developer showed off a first-look trailer earlier this week, and it looks like it’s really sticking to the look of the original game, only with modern clarity and frame rates.
According to the trailer description, “System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition was created to reverse engineer the original code, port SS2 to the KEX engine, and make it available on next-gen consoles for the first time… all cinematics, textures, character and weapon models Already updated, the co-op multiplayer has been completely overhauled to create a seamless experience.”
Beyond that, there’s some good news for those who prefer to play the original game with mods, as Nightdive Studios puts it “also working with the systemshock.org community to bring together all the best mods and Update.” Really nice to see a project trying to keep this aspect of video game history alive.
While System Shock Remastered will finally be released at the end of the month, there is no release date of any kind for System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition. However, if you pre-order the remake of the original game, you’ll also get the System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition for free.
The System Shock remake has been delayed multiple times, with a March release scheduled to be pushed back to May, and the game’s console launch delayed indefinitely, so be sure to keep an eye out for any updates from Nightdive.
