nintendo confirmed not to attend E3 2023.
According to the company, this year’s event was “out of line” with its plans.
“We approach any event we participate in on a case-by-case basis and are always considering ways to engage with our fans,” Nintendo said in a statement provided to VentureBeat.
“As this year’s E3 did not fit our plans, we decided not to attend. However, we have been and will continue to be strong supporters of ESA and E3.”
Nintendo last attended E3 live in 2019 and held a virtual show in 2021. Just because the company won’t be at E3 2023 doesn’t mean it won’t be hosting some sort of direct event this summer in lieu of a live event.
E3 returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 13-16. The event will be overseen by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which will partner with ReedPop, the production company behind PAX, New York Comic-Con, Star Wars Celebration and other major events.
This will be the first official performance in four years. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was canceled in 2020 and will be held online only in 2021. It is canceled entirely in 2022.
Over the years, many publishers and developers have begun holding showcases that are separate from the show, rather than the traditional press conferences of the past.
