Based on a report, there has already been a lot of speculation that all major console manufacturers with Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony will skip E3 2023 this year. At least in the case of Nintendo, this has now been officially confirmed.
Japanese console maker and game developer Nintendo has now officially confirmed reports online that the company will skip this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. Accordingly, the switch manufacturer does not do the honors at the US trade fair, which used to be so important.
After the US colleagues from IGN already reported about it a month ago, Nintendo has since issued a statement VentureBeat reiterates that E3 will be refrained from this time; however, this is not a general decision for the future.
“We decide on our attendance at each event on a case-by-case basis and always consider different ways to engage with our fans. As the E3 show just didn’t fit into our plans this year, we made the decision not to attend “, the statement said.
But Nintendo is far from saying goodbye to E3 permanently: “However, we have always been a strong supporter of ESA and E3 and will remain so.”
The then IGNreport also called the organizing ESA onto the scene and forced them to make a statement. It expressed belief in ReedPOP, who have been brought on board to host this year. ReedPOP is making significant strides to breathe new life into the event so that it will not only last this year, but also into 2024 and beyond – according to the statement at the time, despite the abstinence of the major console manufacturers.
Detached from the official statement VideoGameChronicles tried its own sources and emphasized that the main reason for the cancellation was also due to the fact that Nintendo had not planned enough important releases for the second half of 2023 to be able to fill a significant space at the event in a representative way.
