The Switch 2 is an open secret and is expected to be released in 2024, but at what price? A renowned analyst is leaning out the window!
It is certain that the Japanese at Nintendo will present and publish the successor to the Nintendo Switch this year. In the course of speculation about a new edition of the Bayonetta trilogy for the Switch 2, a rumor recently made the rounds that the presentation could possibly take place at the end of the first quarter of 2024. But at what price should the Switch 2 actually come onto the market? A renowned market analyst has now gone out on a limb in this regard.
Via the industry magazine GamesIndustry.biz Various experts and analysts from the gaming industry spoke out with their outlook for the new year 2024, including Dr. Serkan Toto. He is the CEO of the Tokyo-based consulting firm Kantan Games and is considered an absolute expert in the games industry.
If you believe Toto’s forecast, then Nintendo will bring the Switch successor onto the market this year, but the hardware will then be more expensive than the previous Switch when it was released. As a reminder, the Switch launched in 2017 at a price of $300, just like the Wii U before it. Nintendo won’t be able to maintain this price point this time, but on the other hand, according to Toto, they won’t be pushing into the $500 or more regions like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X either.
“I think the new hardware will be next year [gemeint ist hier 2024, Anm. d. Red.] appear for around 400 US dollars,” said Toto in his forecast. In short: The Switch 2 would then be around 100 US dollars more expensive at launch than the Switch, but would otherwise be on the same level as the entry-level model of the Steam Deck , which still uses an LCD screen and does not use OLED. However, earlier reports also said that the Switch successor would also possibly have an LCD screen – a step back from last year’s OLED model of the current Switch, but it would match the supposed pricing.
According to Toto, the games for the Switch 2 will probably be more expensive and would probably be in the range of 70 US dollars. With The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo released the first title for this price earlier this year, which could become the normal price in the future.
Other passages worth mentioning from Toto’s statement: The Switch successor will certainly receive some innovations, but the new device should be very similar to the current Switch; So there probably won’t be any major changes like from Wii to Wii U to Switch, for example.
And: The expert also emphasizes that a Pro version of the previous Switch definitely existed and that developers had already been equipped with appropriate dev kits and were working with them. This Pro model was apparently completely discontinued in favor of the Switch 2 in 2024.
What do you say: Would you get a Switch 2 for $400? The official announcement of the console by Nintendo is still pending.
