There could be an announcement about the Nintendo Switch 2 soon. Business insiders have given these details about the unveiling, the release period and backwards compatibility.
- Something is supposed to happen around the Switch 2 in September.
- The new handheld is said to have already gone into mass production.
- In addition, the Switch 2 is backwards compatible.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has not yet been announced, but everyone is already talking about the new handheld. Even before the official announcement, business insiders are revealing details about the Switch 2.
Dring, the head of GamesIndustry.biz, writes X (formerly Twitter) that there are rumors in the gaming industry that it will happen in September something related to the Switch 2.
In response to this post, Andy Robinson of VGC wrote that apparently some press had heard about it, but that he wouldn’t bet his house on it.
X user gibbogame also suspects an announcement in September, as the Switch 2 is said to have already gone into mass production. At least that’s what he deduces from publications by Nintendo manufacturer Hosiden.
Mass production started
In the fiscal year 3/25, the company is expected to spend around two billion yen (around 12 million dollars) on production facilities and around 1 billion yen (just over 6 million dollars) on automation for its main customer in the entertainment sector. The main customer is most likely Nintendo.
However, a release is no longer planned for this year, as he suspects a release will be more likely in March 2025.
The same X-post from gibbogame also made it to Reddit and there the well-known leaker and industry insider NatetheHate responded and reconfirmed a detail that has been bothering fans for some time.
How much do you know about Nintendo?
Which of these Nintendo games was also released in the arcade?
The Nintendo Switch 2 is said to be backwards compatible. This practice is already known from PS5 and other consoles and means that you can play games from the previous console on the new models. So your normal Switch games may also be available on the new Switch 2.
However, none of this information has been confirmed yet, as the Switch 2 has yet to be announced and the same applies to the PS5 Pro, about which there are also increasing rumors.
