The fact that Nintendo will announce the Switch successor in the medium term is considered an open secret. Now it’s clear: A number of development studios are already working on corresponding games.
There has already been a lot of speculation surrounding the Switch 2 and basically we are all just waiting for the official announcement from Nintendo. The fact that the hardware actually exists was an open secret anyway – and now it has basically been confirmed elsewhere. Because: Numerous development studios have now confirmed that they are already working on games for the Switch successor.
This emerges from the “2024 GDC State of the Game Industry” survey, which has now been published. In the multi-page document for this survey, 8 percent of the over 3,000 participating developers stated that they were currently working on a project for the successor to the Nintendo Switch. This means that around 240 developers already have a sufficiently good feeling to reveal the work on their Switch projects.
So Nintendo can probably hope for a fair amount of game fodder for the release of the Switch 2 – and a lot more developers are likely to jump on the bandwagon in the future. 32 percent of those surveyed said that the Switch 2 was a platform that would interest them most as a developer in the future. This would mean that the Nintendo console lags behind its major competitors such as the PlayStation 5 at 41 percent. A whopping 62 percent of those surveyed are interested in the PC.
The PC is also the platform for which developers currently have the most games in the works; 66 percent said they would. 35 and 34 percent of those surveyed are working on games for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
