Do all Nintendo Switch games also run on the OLED model? No, according to Nintendo there are restrictions. We give you an overview of the compatible games.
If you are a fan of games about Mario, Link and Kirby, you now have an improved Switch variant to choose from with the Nintendo Switch OLED if you want to get the hybrid game console. Compared to the normal Nintendo Switch, the OLED model has clear differences and is technically much better equipped. But what about the games?
According to Nintendo, you can also play all games that are compatible with the normal Nintendo Switch on the Nintendo Switch OLED. Accordingly, the entire selection of commercially available games is compatible with the Nintendo Switch OLED. The same applies to the games that you can buy digitally in the Nintendo eShop.
Despite compatibility: differences in some games
However, not all Switch games offer the exact same gaming experience on the OLED model, according to Nintendo. Among other things, the gaming experience may differ on some Nintendo Labo Toy-Con models due to the different screen sizes.
The Toy-Con are foldable cardboard accessories that Nintendo released along with software tailored to them. Nintendo based the dimensions of this cardboard accessory on the display size of the normal Switch. However, since the Switch OLED has a slightly larger display, some Toy-Con may not be able to be attached precisely.

In most cases, however, this influence is likely to be limited to a slightly larger screen section. As long-time Nintendo Switch owners, we haven’t noticed any significant differences in terms of gameplay or technology.
Basically, all Nintendo Switch games are available to you on the Nintendo Switch OLED, only with the accessories from Nintendo Labo can there be slight complications – but because of the accessories and not because of the software. Unlike the Nintendo Switch Lite, you can also play games on the OLED version like on the normal Switch in both TV mode and handheld mode.
