The game draws inspiration from the Donkey Kong Country trilogy and is considered one of the best titles in the entire Donkey Kong series. After this first part, two successors to Donkey Kong Land were released in 1996 and 1997.
In the Game Boy classic, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong have to take on the adversary King K. Rool on behalf of Cranky Kong. The platformer extends over 30 levels in four different worlds.
