Analysts expect the Nintendo Switch to be the top seller among consoles in 2021. In the previous year, the sales of the Switch were already above those of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S.
The success story of the Nintendo Switch continues, at least that’s how industry analysts look at current developments in the console market. Everyone agrees: the Switch will also position itself in front of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X / S in 2021. However, there is still conflict over a possible hardware upgrade.
In an interview with colleagues from Gamesindustry.biz the analyst Mat Piscatella from the NPD Group found clear words: “Despite the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, it will be the Nintendo Switch that will sell the most copies in 2021.” Pistacella does not believe that this is a new one Console, such as a Switch Pro, he sees the market power of the Switch more in Nintendo’s games and the advertising power of the group.
Dr. Serkan Toto from Kantan Games, on the other hand, predicts a hardware refresh with a Switch Pro for the second year in a row. His colleague at Ampere Analysis, Piers Harding-Rolls, also sees a new console coming. Most recently, however, the boss of Nintendo America, Dustin Bowser, opposed a hardware update on the part of the group (for the report: Nintendo Switch: First, no Switch Pro?).
Expressed in numbers, the forecast for Nintendo looks like rosy times. As analyst Harding-Rolls sums it up, the group would have sold a total of around 24 million units of its console by the end of 2021. Sony and Microsoft would only get just under 25 million units in the same time – but only if you take PS5 and Xbox Series sales together.
