Nintendo teased a new project with the tag “Who is Emio?” and all I can say is that I feel very uncomfortable.
Hey Nintendo, you okay man? Do you need someone to look out for you? Because you just posted a weird tweet with a link to a video titled Emio that features a grainy image of a man in a trench coat carrying a paper bag with a smiley face drawn on it. Yeah, this isn’t normal, man. If this all sounds like some kind of fun prank, I’d love to tell you, but it’s not, this is actually something Nintendo just decided to pull on some random Wednesday. The video ends with some Japanese, and a machine translation shows it says something like “smiling man,” which I have to say doesn’t really provide much context or comfort to the whole situation.
You can also visit a website, but you won’t find any information there, and it’s pretty much just the same video as above. I think you can get a better look at the man with the smiling brown paper bag, though – it looks like Emio (I’m guessing it’s Emio, right?) is wearing a couple different bags, one with this crescent-shaped eyes and a completely filled-in big smile, and another with round eyes and a similarly big smile, albeit with teeth. Nintendo isn’t known for making games aimed at mature audiences, but the trailer at least has an 17+ rating, so we can assume the game will have the same rating.

This clearly looks like some kind of horror game, so if you don’t count Luigi’s Mansion (which you really shouldn’t), this appears to be Nintendo’s first-party game of this kind. I’m sure we’ll learn more about Emio soon, but until we do, I’m going to be confused.
