A recent announcement by the Nintendo support organization confirmed that the limited Nintendo eShop for 3DS and Wii U systems in 42 countries / regions will be closed soon.
The statement originally appeared on the official Nintendo support page in the Americas. Starting July 31, 2020, the limited eShops of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U systems that have promoted game code redemption in recent years will be completely closed in 42 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
According to the statement, "Users in affected areas will no longer be able to access (eShop) to redeem download codes, re-download software or update software, so we encourage users to take any such measures before the closing date."
"In addition, any software that requires limited Nintendo eShop to operate may stop running," it continued.
The statement also includes an appendix stating that Mexico and Brazil will not be affected by the shutdown.
Nintendo provides a short guide explaining what to do if you live in an affected area, and requires players to take action before the end of July. Recommended precautions include re-downloading any previously downloaded software, checking eShop for updates applicable to purchased software, and redeeming all download codes that have not been redeemed.
The statement stated: "We encourage anyone with unredeemed codes to redeem them before the limited Nintendo eShops close on July 31, 2020." "After that, no codes will be redeemable."
The reason behind the failure is mainly bureaucratic jargon, and the “Frequently Asked Questions” section specifically explains why the failure is: “We are constantly reassessing our business and making decisions based on various factors,” and the section on the future. The planned answer is: "We have no news on this topic."
Mexico and Brazil are not affected because the complete eShop is available in these countries. The complete list of affected countries is in alphabetical order as follows:
