Team Ninja has revealed the next trailer for its upcoming game, “massive role-playing game” Rise of Ronin, which will launch as a console exclusive on PlayStation 5 in 2024.

We already know that “it’s darkest before the dawn” in Rise of Ronin – which fits nicely with the brutal, depressing nature of other games in Team Ninja’s catalog. “In Rise of Ronin, you will explore an ever-evolving world and fight to usher in a new era for Japan. You are a ronin, a warrior freed from all masters and shackles, as your fate intertwines with the characters of the story. Together, take part in an immersive, combat-centric action experience.”

Rise of the Tomb Raider…er, I mean Ronin.

The latest trailer shows off a lot more information about how the game plays, and (honestly) if you’re even remotely familiar with the Team Ninja formula by now, you’ll know what’s going on; it’s a hardcore action RPG built around as you fight a variety of enemies in feudal Japan while blocking, lashing out, and rolling your way to victory.

Rise of the Ronin is a combat-focused open-world action RPG set in Japan during a time of great change. This was the end of the 300-year Edo period (commonly known as the “Bakumo”).

You’ll use paragliders, grappling hooks, and other more vertical means of traversal as you explore a besieged Japanese city in the Edo period, seeking revenge and doing the right thing.

However, the latest trailer may have revealed one of the most important bytes of information; the game is coming soon: this Sony-published action game will release exclusively on PS5 on March 22, 2024. There’s no word yet on whether it’ll be coming to other platforms later – but considering Nioh only released for PC (and not Xbox), and it’s on the same deal, it’s unlikely we’ll see it coming Other consoles.
