Lenovo presented two laptops at CES 2023 that attracted a lot of attention. The Hong Kong company has always been adventurous with its laptop designs and this year shows that again. We introduce you to the two very unusual notebooks.

Imagine you have a laptop with a dual monitor setup – without any cables or an external monitor. That is exactly the case with the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i. This is the first laptop with two built-in OLED touch screens. When unfolded, it looks very weird and we can’t wait to see a businessman crouching in front of this monster on a train.

The device can also be used as a tablet. It comes with a keyboard, stylus and case. The latter is used to store the keyboard and stylus when not in use, but the case doubles as a foldable stand.

The functions of the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i at a glance:

  • Two monitors stacked on top of each other: The keyboard can be magnetically attached to the bottom part of the stand. Alternatively, you can simply detach them and use them wirelessly.
  • Two vertical monitors side by side: The Yoga Book only has to be rotated 90 degrees and you have two vertical monitors side by side.
  • Classic laptop mode: To do this, simply unfold the Yoga Book 9i and place the keyboard on the lower screen. A touch pad is then displayed at the edge of the lower screen and you can operate the Yoga Book 9i like a normal laptop.
  • Laptop mode with wireless keyboard: All you have to do is remove the magnetically attached keyboard.
  • Touchscreen-Laptop: You can also just ditch the physical keyboard and have a virtual variant pop up on the lower screen. In addition, there is also a trackpad to control the mouse.
  • Tent-Modus: When pitching the Yoga Book 9i like a tent, one screen faces you while the other faces the front. You can use this mode for presentations, for example, since it is possible to mirror both screens and you always have an eye on what you are showing the audience.
  • Tablet-Modus: Of course you can also use the Yoga Book 9i like a foldable tablet.

Let’s get to the internal hardware: The two OLED screens have a screen diagonal of 13.3 inches with a resolution of 2880×1800 (16:10). They are up to 400 nits bright and cover 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. Multi-touch is supported, the refresh rate is 60 Hz.

The top screen has an integrated webcam with an infrared sensor so that you can log in using face recognition. Four speakers are built into the hinge. The laptop itself is made of aluminium, which is matte on the front and back and glossy around the edges.

Lenovo gives one Battery life of 10 hours Video playback with a brightness of 150 nits or up to 14 hours using only one display.

The Yoga Book 9i will at least 2.100 Dollar and is equipped with a 13th generation Intel Core i7-U15, Intel Iris Xe graphics chip, 16 gigabytes of RAM and either 512 gigabytes or 1 terabyte of SSD storage. Sales will start in June 2023.

At first glance, the Thinkbook Plus Twist looks like an ordinary laptop with a fancy OLED screen. The technical data also read unobtrusively: a screen diagonal of 13.3 inches with a 2880×1800 resolution, 400 nits, 60 Hz and 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.

If you turn the screen around with a flick of the wrist, a 12-inch e-ink screen suddenly reveals itself. This has a refresh rate of 12 Hz and – unlike many e-book readers – can even display colors.

If you are just wondering what e-ink displays are again: They are used in many e-book readers such as the Amazon Kindle, are particularly energy-efficient and are easy to read. They work by filling tiny capsules under the display with electronic particles. With a still image, the image doesn’t need to be redrawn, which is why they’re so energy efficient. Their biggest disadvantage is the usually very slow refresh rate.

With the ThinkBook Plus Twist, Lenovo wants to combine the best of both worlds. An energy-saving E Ink display for reading and editing documents, for example, and an OLED screen for all other content.

Lenovo also includes a stylus with this laptop that can be used on both screens. The ThinkBook Plus Twist will have a 13th generation Intel processor, 16 gigabytes of RAM and 1 terabyte of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage.

If you expect months of battery life like an e-reader, you will unfortunately be disappointed. Lenovo estimates 21 hours of battery life when using the E Ink display exclusively. As far as connections are concerned, the ThinkBook Plus Twist offers four Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports and a 3.5 mm jack.

The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Twist will be at 1.650 Dollar start and will also be available in June of this year.
