latest expedition no man’s skyLeviathan, is out, and it traps travelers in a time loop that struggles to adapt to a survival mode setting.
Over the next six weeks, this roguelike expedition lets you explore the cycles you’ll recover from fragments of memory. These lost remnants of previous loops appear to be procedurally generated techniques, meaning that each reset of the loop can be played differently. You can cooperate with other players to “balance the odds”.
In addition to trying to break the cycle, you can also help the expert Polo study the performance of the cycle. The more players involved in research, the more powerful the memory shards become, leading to better upgrades, more inventory space, and more powerful multi-tools and starships.
This expedition also offers a story-driven adventure in which you’ll follow previous iterations, soak up memories, investigate important locations, and join others to escape the curse of the loop.
Shattered Memories point to an encounter with the ancient space creature Leviathan, which can be recruited as an organic addition to the battleship frigate fleet.
Leviathan Adventures offers a variety of limited-edition rewards. After the expedition is over, progress will be converted to a Survival Mode save, and stage rewards can be redeemed from the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion in Space Anomaly. These rewards include three basic decorations, such as the Leviathan, Loop, and Time Slice posters.
A time starship track can be installed on your ship and it will not only change the propulsion energy but also leave a cool chain of time disturbances. Whaler capes will also be handed out. You can also relocate the organic frigate Mavericks at your base. The creature was enclosed in a time saving field to ensure it remained “of an eternally young, interesting and manageable size”.
Today’s update also includes various fixes.
The last major addition, Outlaws, was released in April and includes daring space pirates, new ships over the years, smuggling, improved space combat, recruitable squadrons, and more.
No Man’s Sky is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Switch release is expected this summer.
