If you’re worried about whether the Silent Hill 2 remake will affect your view of the PS2 classic, the director of the original says: Don’t worry.
When it comes to remakes, especially of a game as beloved as Silent Hill 2, the conversation about the original can get confusing. Some may say that the remake supersedes the original, others may say the same thing but in a negative light, but if you ask the director of the PS2 original Silent Hill 2, he will tell you that the quality of the remake wins out Turns out to do anything. Developer Masashi Tsuboyama wrote on his personal Twitter that he believes “the value of the remaster is that a new generation can play it. As a creator, I am very happy about this. It’s been 23 years! Even if you don’t know Knowing the original, you can appreciate the remake as it is, without affecting the original, good or bad.”

It’s a very positive twist to the situation, at least for those who love the original so much that you can keep doing it even if you end up hating the remake. That’s not to say Tusboyama only has positive things to say, he continued, “The differences between the original and the remake, the 4K, the realism, the bonus headgear, etc. are all mediocre. Who is this promotion going to attract? They don’t seem to be trying their best to To convey the appeal of this work to a generation that doesn’t understand Silent Hill.”

Nonetheless, he went on to praise the remake’s use of an over-the-shoulder perspective, saying it “adds to the sense of realism” and “in other words, it makes me want to try playing the more immersive version of Silent Hill 2!” Apparently Tsuboyama “wasn’t happy with the playable footage from 23 years ago,” though in the game’s defense it did create some incredibly atmospheric moments despite the occasional stutter.
Silent Hill 2 Remastered is out tomorrow, October 8, and our Kelsey gave it a perfect 5/5 stars in her review.
