It’s been more than a day since the release of Diablo 4’s first paid expansion, Containers of Hate. The release was delayed by a few hours due to some last-minute bugs being discovered, but it now appears there’s more to complain about here than we initially realized.
One issue in particular has put off many players. No matter how they purchased the expansion, the game would sometimes think they didn’t own it and would either kick them out of the session or not allow them to start.

This is a fairly typical license verification issue, and in this case it’s limited to the console. Still, this is something PlayStation and Xbox players really don’t have to deal with. If you browse the Diablo 4 Reddit subreddit, you’ll see that this is one of the most common questions asked at launch.
Blizzard was quick to let players know that it was aware of the issue and offered some workarounds as it worked on fixing it. Some of these include logging out and logging back in, and switching to a non-Spiritborn category before switching back. While these workarounds do work, they don’t do much to alleviate the frustration of getting kicked out of paid content.
The good news is, no one should have to deal with this problem anymore. Overnight, Blizzard deployed patch 2.0.2 on consoles, with the title change being a fix for the issue. The patch also brings “performance and stability improvements.”
Steam is another platform where some players are also experiencing access issues with Containers of Hate (albeit different ones). The “workaround” for this is to contact Blizzard customer service, confirmed community lead Adam Fletcher.
