News culture “No resemblance to the end of the books” The grand finale of the Outlander series will make Netflix unhappy
While relatively faithful to the novels, the Outlander series is likely to experience some differences from the original material with the release of the final season.
A different ending
The Outlander series has been in full swing for several years now. Based on the novel series “The Thistle and the Tartan” by Diana Gabaldon, “Outlander” mixes romance, drama and fantasy and offers viewers a journey into the heart of 18th century Scotland. The series, which is particularly popular on Netflix, will soon have to end with the end of the eighth season. And if the various seasons so far have faithfully adapted the novels, this finale is likely to have some differences from the last book, as the author explained. under one of his Facebook posts.
(…) All I can say is that (the final season) won’t quite resemble the end of the novels. (…) Even if people in the series had a complete copy of the (final) book, there’s no way the series could be anything like it. The biggest limitation is that season eight only has 10 episodes – and in general (…) they can’t adapt more than 10% of each book in a season. For season 8, they have all the content of “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone” (book 9), a running summary of book 10, and about three-quarters of book 8 that they didn’t use. That’s a lot to cram into hour-long episodes and still make sense. So they did what they’d already done with the first books; they chose certain scenes and stories to fit into a framework and link them in a more or less logical way.
A long overdue final season
Therefore, according to the author, these changes are related to several factors. First of all, Diana Gabaldon explains that the last book is not yet finished and therefore cannot yet reveal its plot to the showrunners of the series. In addition, it is also because the series has not been renewed for the same number of episodes. The eighth season will be shorter, with about ten episodes, compared to between 13 and 16 so far. While the series has already dispensed with some elements from the previous books, the writers of the series must now decide and choose which storylines make the most sense for this final season. However, we will have to wait a while before we can discover the final season. Before that, the second half of the seventh season will air in November. To be continued.
