The Evil Dead, an early access game from Moon Studios that initially sparked controversy, has been available for a week. It’s remarkable how hard the developers have worked to release patches almost every day since the game’s release.
Just a few hours ago, the game received its fifth patch, and its largest yet.

Hotfix 5 continues to address No Rest for the Wicked’s many performance issues, but also brings meaningful updates to the game’s quality of life and even adds new content and features.
One of the great features of this quality of life is the ability to store all your belongings, which will greatly help with inventory management. Now you can deposit matching item types with one click. The default sorting has been set to sort by type, and cooking/crafting materials can now be stacked up to 25. As an added bonus, food can now be stored in cupboards.
Hotfix 5 also brings a gift for players with ultrawide monitors, as the game now supports 32:9 resolution, although you will see some visual issues – this will be fixed in a future update.
Tool and armor durability has been enhanced for the sake of game balance, meaning the values you see will now accurately reflect the state the item is in. While the previous patch increased the stamina cost to weapon block, this one adds the same stamina cost to shield block. The game also now has eight new shields for you to find.
In terms of performance fixes, the patch notes include some CPU- and GPU-specific tweaks. The takeaway is that the game will look and perform better at higher visual settings, but lower-end systems should also have better times thanks to optimizations for volumetric fog and shadow rendering.
There are also fixes to prevent performance degradation over time, which Moon Studios has done by improving resource handling and reducing unnecessary memory allocations. Generally speaking, such resource offload updates will help resolve CPU stuttering issues, such as when entering new areas of the game where new content must be transferred.
As Moon Studios continues to develop No Rest for the Wicked, some changes surrounding things like stamina consumption are bound to cause controversy. That said, we’ve seen the game change quite a bit in such a short period of time, so expect these areas to remain in flux for some time.
