The Simpsons aired its series finale yesterday, but it didn’t air because it was just a big prank on viewers.
Spoilers ahead.
Some The Simpsons viewers were a little confused last night while watching the show because the latest episode did something strange: It told everyone that this was the end of the show, just like its final episode. The episode, titled “Bart’s Birthday,” follows the show’s most troubled boy as he finally celebrates his 11th birthday, considering the show has been on the air since 1989 and the character has been around ever since Not growing older a day was considered unthinkable.

Former Simpsons writer and TV host Conan O’Brien explained that this was the show’s finale, as he played an animated version of himself in the opening monologue, saying: “It’s an honor to watch this show with you all I knew I was the right person for the job because I hosted the final episode of my own three-episode show… Well, Fox decided to end The Simpsons.”
O’Brien went on to explain how Fox wanted to cancel the show decades ago, before showing off what he said were original cuts from classic shows like “Bart Daredevil” and “Little Big Mom” and how they were originally Conceived as the denouement of the play, Homer is killed. The host then explained that the show’s writers actually used artificial intelligence to script the finale, which included a bunch of series-ending clichés like Bart finally getting old — which, of course, was just a dumb move, and Bart is still 10 forever.
Most people obviously won’t know the episode number or whether the show has been renewed, The Simpsons is largely a show that a lot of people just randomly watch, so it’s obvious this episode is based on that – after all , which is the season 36 premiere.
The AI stuff is more of an attack on technology than actually written by AI, but it’s also unclear if AI was used in the writing process (hopefully not). The Simpsons Season 37 has yet to be confirmed, so it could still end up being canceled, but if it does, at least the show will have an ending.
