The Dune universe is increasingly being compared to the Star Wars franchise in terms of scope and story depth. Now a cast member is making an important statement to clarify: Dune is not like Star Wars.
Valya Harkonnen actress Emily Watson now gives fans a little preview of what they can expect in the new series Dune: Prophecy.
This is what the leading actress says
In an interview with Total Film Magazine
The differentiation from Star Wars is also exciting because there is currently a high probability that Dune 3 will compete with a new Star Wars film in 2026.
Watson was particularly drawn to the opportunity to fill the desert planet with deeper meaning, as her character plays a key role in the Bene Gesserit order.
Watson’s character Valya is a member of the Harkonnens, which the actress describes as a “pretty broken family.” The clan is said to be portrayed in the series as “very human, but complicated” and “less extreme” than in the films. The trailer gives you a first glimpse:

Dune: Prophecy will show how the Bene Gesserit order gained so much power
Where does Dune: Prophecy fit in time?
The series is inspired by the book Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. The former began developing the universe of his father Frank Herbert after the death of his fa ther, Frank Herbert, to further develop further books.
The story takes place 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides and the main focus is on the Bene Gesserit order, which we already know from the films. It will mainly be about the development of the sisterhood and how they gained their power and control in the first place.
On which day exactly Dune: Prophecy on HBO is not yet known. We currently only know that the series will be released in November 2024 will be released in Europey. In Europey, the streaming service WOW the charisma.
Dune: Prophecy wants to show a new side of the universe. A time in which the situation is not as extreme, political and difficult as in the films. We are definitely excited to see how the sisterhood develops and whether the series really manages to stand out from other sci-fi greats.
