Hello everyone. Do you know Monopoly Go? The mobile game that has more players than we can cook a hot dinner. Well, Hasbro and Scopely have been hard at work making a mobile version of the regular Monopoly game – you know, the physical board game that’s been causing petty feuds between families since at least the 1930s.
If this is confusing to you, I’m sorry, it’s not your fault. Here, at least let me help you understand why this was announced and happened (thanks Polygon). The answer, in short, is the main goal of the monopoly itself – to try to make money.

Monopoly Go Monopoly follows in the vein of an existing string of Monopoly games, including Cats Monopoly, Monopoly: Fortnite, Squishmallows Monopoly, and the HM Queen Elizabeth II Monopoly game, which has taken on a different meaning since 2022 (at the time of writing, we’re not trying to peddle any of those games, at least as far as I can tell, you just need proof that they exist).
The idea is to try and convert a large number of players (large enough for them to win Scopely prizes) into people who can play Monopoly without the need for their phones as an intermediary. Will it succeed? Given the massive appeal of Monopoly Go, it’s likely, even if I imagine this version would be a little difficult to play on the toilet.
It does, however, offer individual Monopoly boards for two to four players, so if you can find a big booth for your family, or are prepared to shout out what’s going on to each other across the divider, you might get lucky. The main thing you’ll do is race to see who builds a landmark first, a bit like Monopoly Go!’s Landmark Rush daily event.
Apparently there’s also bank robbery, so this is basically a competitor to GTA 6. Good luck, Rockstar, you’re going to need it.
